What to expect

From Leaves to Roots

Starting therapy can feel like a little like bringing a plant into the office and asking, "Why isn't this thriving?" Most of us naturally focus on the leaves first because that's the part we can see.

Session One: Inspecting the Leaves

Our first session is an intake appointment. We'll review important consent forms, talk through questions about the therapy process, and spend time getting to know you and what brought you here. We'll explore your concerns, your hopes for therapy, and what you'd like your life or relationships to look like moving forward. In many ways, we're beginning with the leaves- the symptoms, stressors, and struggles that are most visible right now.

Session Two: Exploring the Roots

During our assessment session, we’ll take a more structured look at your story, your relationships, and the family system you grew up in. We’ll explore patterns, experiences, and messages that may still be shaping how you relate to yourself and others today. This is where we begin looking beneath the surface and getting curious about the root system underneath.

Session Three (and maybe four): Cultivating New Growth

By the third or fourth session, we’ll begin creating a treatment plan together. We’ll identify what may need to be uprooted, what deserves more attention and care, and what new things we hope to plant and grow. Therapy isn’t about becoming someone else; it’s about tending to the soil so healthier patterns, relationships, and ways of living have room to take root.
